I was telling someone the other day about all of my friends who have blogs and they asked, astonished, "How do you keep track of them all?!" I told her that I use an RSS reader service ... and I got a dull stare in return. From a really smart and tech-savvy girl! I figured that if she didn't know about RSS readers, then many of you out there might not. Hence this post.
I use Google Reader, which allows you to add subscriptions. Every time one of my subscribed pages is updated (i.e. new entry on a friend's blog, new pictures uploaded, etc) it shows up in my Reader page. I already had a Google account, which allows you to create a custom Google (iGoogle) page: you can add news feeds, weather, checklists, and even Google Reader modules to the page. We use our iGoogle as our homepage. It's pretty convenient.
Anyway, here's a video that the folks at Google Reader put out as a beginning tutorial.
So if you've ever posted something and noticed that I read and comment on it within hours of posting ... it's not because I'm blog-stalking you! It's because I see the new post in my Reader updates on my homepage!
[Edit:
Once you have Google Reader up and running, you will feel compelled to subscribe to blogs that people post on facebook or that you find by linking to blogs other people have linked to. Here are two such blogs I found recently that have me in stitches.
